A LUCKY Lilydale resident will take the trip of a lifetime after winning a free ticket to the FIFA World Cup, held this year in Brazil.
David Blyth is one of only 10 winners drawn nationally in the Solver Ultra Challenge, picking up a 10-day trip to experience one of the world’s biggest sporting events.
Mr Blyth says the news came as quite a shock.
“I was in the middle of cooking dinner, my kids playing in the backyard, when I received the phone call,” he said.
“It was surreal, very surreal.
“It took a while for it to settle in.”
A tradesman, Mr Blyth was selected by Solver Ultra after purchasing their products at his local store, Lilydale Paints.
Jeff Man, owner and operator at Lilydale Paints, says the announcement is thrilling for many in the area.
“We’re very excited because nothing like this happens much around here,” he says.
“Usually when there are opportunities like this, they happen in the city, not in regional areas.”
Mr Blyth will be in attendance with around 3.3 million soccer fanatics, over the course of one month.
The FIFA World Cup in Brazil kicks off next Thursday 12 June.
